I’m a UX engineer and technical leader who's passionate about building people-first products and teams. I believe that great user experiences require 4 key things:

  • ❤️ the tactical empathy of human-centered design;
  • ⏩ the rapid response afforded by continuous delivery;
  • 🤝 strategic cross-functional collaboration;
  • 🌠 and robust observability, testing, and experimentation in production

I help teams achieve this vision through my experience in accessibility, agile consulting, forging strong partnerships with designers, coaching/mentoring, and cultivating high-performing teams.

People-first products

I advocate for accessibility and inclusive design as critical to software delivery, as well as being completely transparent on the outcomes we want to achieve for our users. It's important to clearly articulate the purpose of what we're trying to build so we can connect the dots to show how everyone's work is directly contributing towards that purpose.

Everyone on the team, regardless of their role, should actively participate in design and have a shared understanding of how the product solution supports the goals and values of the users. To achieve this understanding requires cross-functional pairing and a strong sense of empathy and community with our users.

People-first teams

Our users are the heart and soul of our products, but when we say "human-centered design", we ought to remember to include the humans building the products! I believe that software is a sociotechnical system, and so is the process of building it; the success of a team lies in appropriately addressing both social and technical concerns.

I look to center the needs of the humans on my teams: their BICEPS needs, their well-being, and their aspirations. As a Tech Lead, I enjoy discovering and maximizing the strengths of both individuals and collectives. I love pair programming, coaching, and becoming friends with designers! I’m constantly looking for ways to facilitate team cohesion and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
